Advice & Information

We are expert energy advisors who provide advice and support for Londoners; helping you stay warm and save money on your home energy bills. Here are just some of the things you can expect from your free telephone consultation:

Switching Energy Tariff
This can make a big difference to your gas and electricity bills, sometimes helping you save hundreds of pounds a year. We use a range of Ofgem approved price comparison websites to show you how much money you could save and can help you switch to the best tariff for you. If you decide not to switch energy tariff during the telephone consultation, you can always do this at a later date via Groundwork SWITCH.

Warm Homes Discount
The Warm Homes Discount is a one-off discount of £140 on your electricity bill which is automatically credited to your energy account or prepayment card / key during the winter. The scheme is open between September to March each year. The Green Doctor will help you to register through your energy supplier if you meet the eligibility criteria.

Priority Services Register
The Green Doctor will help you to contact your energy supplier to get on the Priority Services Register if you:

  • are of pensionable age

  • are disabled or chronically sick

  • have a long-term medical condition

  • have a hearing or visual impairment or additional communication needs

  • are in a vulnerable situation

The Priority Service Register is provided by energy suppliers to support you. For instance, you can receive advance notice of planned power cuts or priority support with alternative heating and cooking facilities in the event of a power cut.

Thames Water: WaterHelp
If you live in London and earn below £19,565, we can help you to apply for a discounted water bill through the WaterHelp scheme. If you qualify, you may be eligible for a 50% discount on your water bill.

Thames Water: WaterSure
If you are on a water meter, we can help you to apply for the WaterSure scheme if you are in receipt of a means tested benefit, and have a large family or a medical condition which makes it hard for you to save water. If you qualify, your water bills may be capped.

Grant Applications
If you have any debt with your energy or water supplier, we will see how best to support you. This could be helping you to liaise with your supplier to discuss payment plans and methods; supporting you with grant applications to help clear your energy debt; or referring you to other organisations which can support you with ongoing financial support and income maximisation.

Community Support
We can refer you to a range of organisations for ongoing wellbeing and community support. For instance, this could be London Fire Brigade for a free home fire safety visit or Age UK services in your area.

Energy Saving Behaviour
By making a few simple changes at home, you can be more energy efficient and save money on your bills. We will discuss a range of energy saving tips with you during your telephone consultation.

Energy Saving Measures
Following your telephone consultation, we may be able to drop-off or post free-energy saving measures for you to install at home. The measures available vary depending on where you live but typically include:

  • Energy saving lightbulbs
  • Shower Head
  • Shower Timer
  • Tap Aerator
  • Save-a-flush bag
